Greg Medwig Jr. was born and raised in Long Island, NY. He began working as a shellfish harvester alongside his parents at the age of 5, making him a 4th-generation bayman. Through his experience, he developed a strong work ethic, resilience, and an understanding that hard work pays off. This ultimately pushed him through his academic journey at Farmingdale State College to earn a bachelor's degree with a double major and a double minor within a 4 year period, contribute to four unique research projects spanning different fields, work at an engineering firm & national laboratory, and serve as a peer tutor throughout. His sister, Dr. Taylor Medwig-Kinney, also had a great impact on his professional development. She encouraged and motivated him to pursue a doctoral degree in engineering. Greg truly believes the key to being successful in life is surrounding yourself with people who motivate you & believe in your abilities.
Greg Medwig Sr. was by far Greg Jr.'s biggest supporter. Greg Sr. was always there for his kids; good & bad, happy & sad. He always had a sense of pride in both of his children & loved to celebrate their accomplishments. Greg Sr. unfortunately passed away in January 2026 due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurological disease which still has no known cure to this day. Greg Jr. hopes to carry on the spirit of his father by continuing to instill the strong work ethic & caring nature that Greg Sr. had his entire life. In the future, Greg Jr. plans to establish a scholarship foundation in his name to motivate hard-working students in pursuing their academic studies.
